There’s something almost sacred about the blank page waiting for you in the morning. No judgment, no expectations — just you and your thoughts spilling out onto paper before the world demands your attention.
The Practice
Morning pages are simple: three pages of longhand, stream-of-consciousness writing done first thing in the morning. There’s no wrong way to do it. You don’t edit, you don’t overthink, you just write. Some mornings it’s poetry. Other mornings it’s grocery lists and complaints about the weather. Both are valid.
What I Discovered
What started as a creative exercise became something deeper. Those pages became a mirror, showing me patterns I didn’t know existed. Anxiety about work that I’d been suppressing. Joy in small moments I’d been rushing past. Dreams I’d forgotten I had.
The act of writing without purpose is, paradoxically, the most purposeful thing I do all day. It clears the mental clutter. It’s like meditation for people who can’t sit still.
The Virgo Perspective
As a Virgo, I love systems and structure. But morning pages taught me that not everything needs to be optimized. Sometimes the messy, unstructured process is exactly what leads to clarity. Sometimes you need to write three pages about absolutely nothing to realize what you actually want to say.
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start something creative, something just for you — this is it. Grab a notebook, set your alarm 20 minutes earlier, and see where your thoughts take you. No pressure, no perfection. Just you, the page, and whatever wants to come out.
